Wangzhen from Nanyang, Henan, China was just two years old when his biological mother abandoned him. To make things worse, his father, Wangman, accidentally cut off his right hand when he was working at the construction site. Though Wangman could still work, what he makes can barely feed them all.
It was until his stepmother came into their lives that he finally felt how to be loved by a mother. This young boy doesn’t even share a single drop of blood with his stepmom, treats the latter with utmost care that he is willing to sacrifice everything he has for her.
Liang Yingchun came into his and his father’s life and the three of them lived happily for a period of time. Sad to say, the happiness didn’t last long when Liang was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She was admitted to a hospital where she was taken care of by Wangzhen who would feed her, and even wipe her sweat off when it got too hot.
To help his father with the hospital bills, at 12 years old, Wangzhen works day and night to earn money. He would walk around looking for “valuable” trash and sell them to a junk shop in hopes to make enough money for himself and his stepmother.
Wangzhen said: “With half a day’s work of collecting recycling materials, I could earn around 2.50 Yuan. Aunty Liang (stepmother) treated me and grandfather well. This time, the doctors said if her sickness was not treated, she would die. I could not bear to let her die so I am going to earn enough money to treat her!”
Despite difficulties in life, Wangzhen never fails to smile whenever people mention his stepmom.
